The house next door has been unoccupied for coming up to two years, its the Vicarage and belongs to the Church of England - we don't currently have a vicar but a series of visiting vicars come for a Sunday service and weddings and funerals.

The very extensive garden is a mess.

I also have a large garden - mostly grass for easy maintenance (which is John's department and he has a ride-on mower, I do the flowers) and I have a small 'wild' area in the far corner next to the boundary wall and I am having a huge problem with brambles bl**dy Spanish bluebells and wild raspberries (also bindweed, nettles, rose bay willow herb and suchlike) coming through the drystone wall and taking root in my lawn and smothering my wild garden.  I see there is also some bamboo over there, but so far its stayed over the wall in the other garden.   In  my wild garden I have some lovely self seeded cowslips which have done well this year as well as bluebells and primroses and violets - all self seeded - and I see a few wild strawberries coming too.

The invading rubish from next door is getting too much for me.  I know no-one's going to come and clear it all up, it would take a small jcb digger to do the job properly now, the place is a jungle - but I'm at my wit's end keeping on top of it.  I'm 80 years old with arthritis but I do love my garden and take a great pride in keeping it tidy and colourful but this is beginning to get me down.

I know I can cut overhanging branches, but I'm not strong enough to cut through the thick branches with my loppers - it needs a chain saw and a sharp axe.   John promises to 'have a go at  it' some day but you know what farmers are like when it comes to gardns, they're something for the little lady to do to keep herslef busy (bah).

Do you think a letter to the Parish concil would do any good?  I'm not a regular church gower, and look young for my age, so they'll think I'm fit enough to cope, but after two hours pulling out creepers and brambles this afternoon my back is killing me and frankly I could cry.

I feel like pouring weedkiller over the wall and into the jungle on the other side.

Sorry for that - feel better now after having a bit of a rant!  Going to have a gin (so I know its 3.30 in the afternoon)  Hic!

Contact your County Council or local Council who can take action if prompted and of course contact the church who should keep their own garden in order.

Try the Parish Council first and then do as Geoff suggests. Do you know who your local councillor is? Ring them up and point out your problem. If they want your vote at next bye-election they will look into it for you.

Any update on this Barb? I myself dealt with our next door weeds coming through by buying V. strong weedkiller that worked by spraying the leaves and travelling to the roots so anything that came through or under my fence got sprayed sometimes with some card under it so as not to over spray my own plants, seemed to do the trick for over 3 years of neglect. The house has been sold now and the new people have bought it to actually live in not rent out so they are gradually starting to sort stuff out :)

All those noted, thanks Crystal for thinking of that.
Don't quite know how to cope with all these forums (not just Aimoo) changing - have to say its all getting just a bot too much.
Dp you think we should band together and create ourselves a New virtua; garden in a placethat welcomes friendly chit chat and welcomes new recruits?  Does anyone have the technical knowledge to undertake this task?

(I can't even enlarge the text on here at the moment!)  Hope you can read it - I can't.

Re next door garden - requests to PCC having had no results I have reluctantly resorted to chemicals.  Having a husband who is an agricultural contractor I have access to a real arsnell of chemics which I usually shun because I hate them.  But needs must - and nettles and brambles need really big guns!  Pity.

Is it time to regroup under a different supplier and recruit some new blood?  Aimoo haven't been very kind.
